Dorothy Scott '99
Since
graduating from UWC-USA in 1999, I went on to obtain a BA in Anthropology
and Law at the London School of Economics and qualified as an attorney
at law in 2005. I am currently an associate based in Walkers' Cayman
Islands office where I specialize in hedge funds and private equity
fund structures and advises on a range of general corporate matters.
I act for many well-known investment managers and private equity
fund sponsors in connection with the development, launch and operation
of their Cayman Islands investment fund products, working closely
with their associated service providers.
I have been heavily involved in community service in Grand Cayman
and have found Rotary International to be an invaluable resource
in bringing grass roots community work to the attention of the business
community in Cayman. I am technically too young to be a Rotarian
and was asked to charter a Rotaract Club (an under-30 Rotary Club)
in Grand Cayman and jumped at the opportunity to promote community
service within my peer group and on the back of the resources of
the Grand Cayman Rotary Clubs. During its inaugural year, the Rotaract
Club of Grand Cayman received the Club-of-the-Year Award from Rotary
District 7020 and a Presidential Citation from Rotary International
for its outstanding achievements in community service and the fostering
of international goodwill. Since then, a second Rotaract Club has
been chartered in Cayman, and the movement continues to grow with
the community directly benefiting as a result. I now have a role
on the District Board, which is responsible for the very diverse
District 7020 which spans the northern Caribbean from Grand Cayman
to St. Maarten and which includes Haiti and the Bahamas.
My employer recently selected me as a "featured attorney"
in recognition of my work with the Rotaract Club of Georgetown,
Guyana and their efforts to raise funds to establish a permanent
library in the Sophia squatter area in Guyana. I am also a director
of the United World Colleges (Cayman Islands) National Foundation,
a member of Walkers' Training Committee (the committee that selects
and supervises trainee attorneys), a pro-bono Legal Befriender and
a literacy tutor in the local men's prison, HMP Northward.
